山居倉庫はＮＨＫ朝のテレビ小説「おしん」のロケーション舞台になりました。現役の農業倉庫です。酒田市観光物産館や庄内米歴史資料館もあります。

Sankyo Warehouse /Sankyo Soko

The SankyoWarehouse served as backdrop for the NHK Morning Television drama, “Oshin.” Presently, it is used to store rice, as well both the Sakata Souvenir Shop and the Shonai Rice Historical Museum.

Shonai Rice Historical Museum /Shonai-mai Rekishi Shiryokan

Shonai is renowned for its fine rice, and this exhibit hall is unique to it. See how they worked in the old days, try carrying a heavy, straw-rice bale on your back, as the rice farmers did.

さかた海鮮市場

さかた海鮮市場には酒田港に水揚げされた鮮魚がたくさん並びます。また飛島でつくられるイカの塩辛は名物で、期間限定で発売されます。

Sakata Fish Market/ Sakata Kaisen Ichiba

Fresh fish is caught daily off Sakata Port and sold early at this market. Ika no shiokara, a kind of salted-squid, is a local specialty made in Tobishima, and available here.

日和山公園

酒田港を一望できるこの公園は船頭たちが日和を見た丘で、日本最古の木造灯台や方角石、常夜灯など多くの遺物が点在しています。

Hiyoriyama Park / Hiyoriyama Koen

The oldest, wooden lighthouse in Japan is located here, as the park commands a clear view of the port. Also, many objects of interest such as, a stone compass and lanterns can be found here. Seamen from the past once looked out to the ocean from these hills.

海向寺

港を望む日和山の一角にあり、県内に八体、うち六体が庄内に残る即身仏（ミイラ）を二体安置しています。

Kaiko Temple / Kaiko-ji

There are only a total of eight mummies in all of Yamagata prefecture. Two of the six mummies found specifically in the Shonai area, are here. Kaiko Temple is near Hiyoriyama Park

本間家旧本邸「本間さまにはおよびもないがせめてなりたや殿様に」と詠われた本間家の旧本邸。表は二千石旗本格式の武家屋敷で、その奥は商家造りとなっている極めてめずらしい建築様式の建物。

Former Honma Residence / Honmake Kyu-hontei

Honma, a wealthy landowner, was so well-known, his riches were mentioned in a song. The architecture of this historical home is unusual, in that the front appears as if a Samurai residence, but inside it is designed for a place of business.

旧鐙屋（国指定史跡）井原西鶴の｢日本永代蔵」にその繁栄ぶりが描かれている酒田を代表する回船問屋。復元改修され、当時の姿を今に伝えています。

Former Abumiya Residence / Kyu-Abumiya (a designated national historic site)

Abumiya, an extremely wealthy businessman, was noted in Ihara Saikaku’s “Japanese Treasury of the Ages.” The restored home gives a glimpse into the Edo period.
